What is a Spoonie?
I get asked this question regularly as I refer to myself as a Spoonie and talk about my Spoonie Friends quite often on social media and in conversation.
A Spoonie, to me, is anybody who relates to The Spoon Theory (video below). A Spoonie is someone who fights an invisible or chronic illness and has to regulate their activity based upon what their body allows that day. A Spoonie is somebody who has to take into account their illnesses when planning their day. A Spoonie is someone who has limited energy to complete seemingly simple chores. A Spoonie may appear healthy or “normal” but is weighed down by chronic illness. A Spoonie is part of an amazingly supportive community where we build each other up while our bodies are tearing us down. Spoonies are Warriors. Spoonies are Fighters. Spoonies are for Life.
